Condition: New York: Sully and Kleinteich, (1916). First edition. Numerous diagrams and illustrations. Fine in internally repaired, else very good, illustrated dustwrapper with some wrinkling on the front panel. Inscribed by the author in the year of publication: "With the Compliments of the Author. July 27, 1916." Laid in is an index card typed and signed by a C.C. Adams, with the following amusing information: "Written by James E. Homans, a Harvard graduate in Theodore Roosevelt's class. He was an uncle of Jinny's; never owned an automobile, and NEVER DROVE ONE. He once told me personally that he wrote this book, as he did in similar instances... by shutting himself up in some big library, and staying with it until the completion of the book. C.C. Adams." Whatever the genesis of the book, it is exceptionally scarce in jacket.
